Assistant Accountant
The assistant accountant is typically the next step up from the accounts assistant. A candidate for this position is typically in the later stages of passing their AAT qualification, or perhaps in the early stages of ACCA/ACA/CIMA. The assistant accountant will have a good level of transactional and ledger experience.
Assistant Accountant Duties
- Updating and reconciling financial ledgers
- Assisting in monthly management account preparation
- Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets for the company
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparing financial documents such as purchase orders and bank statements
- Calculating accruals & prepayments
- Verifying company expenses, bank deposits and bank payments
- Routine bank reconciliation
- Reporting discrepancies, mistakes or potential fraud to senior management
- Journal posting
- Complying with financial laws and regulations, alongside in-house policies
- Daily bank receipts postings
- Producing accounts up to trial balance
- Overseeing/supporting transactional staff duties
- Preparing payment runs
- Assisting with yearly budget preparation
- Quarterly VAT return preparation
Typical Salary Range: £22,000-£25,000 per annum
